Archie and Irene Lorenzo!

Gloria Leroy, appeared as a guest star on All in the Family as Mildred "Boom Boom"Turner.  A few years ago, she graciously agreed to speak with fans via our website's chat!

Many fans-- young and old were delighted to speak with Ms. Leroy, and truly get a sense of what it was like to work with greats such as Carroll, Jean, Sally and Rob. Enjoy and the transcript!

Gloria Leroy: Nice to meet you too I'm overwhelmed by everyone's response!

Lori S: Where are you from?
Gloria Leroy: I was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, raised in New York & now live in LA.

Anthony: Are you married?
Gloria Leroy: Not married. Are you proposing??

Brokenwing: Do you have kids?
Gloria Leroy: No children lots of friends.

Joe: Do you have any pets?
Gloria Leroy: No pets.

Carla: When did you start your career?
Gloria Leroy: I started as a dancer at 13 years old- working for Barbara Walters father in New York.

Joe: Who were your favorite motion picture actors and actresses as you were growing up?
Gloria Leroy: I loved Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, and Katherine Hepburn.

Joe: How did you get involved with All in the Family?
Gloria Leroy: Norman Lear saw me in stage show.

Glorydaz: What was Norman Lear like to work with?
Gloria Leroy: Norman Lear was my mentor. He began my career in film and TV.

Lori S: Did you have any say in how Boom Boom was created (personality)?
Gloria Leroy: No say in creation- but characters were developed during the week's rehearsal. Main cast was very vocal about their characters. Objected when something didn't seem right.

Anthony: What was it like working with everyone on All in the Family?
Gloria Leroy: The cast was the best! They were very helpful.

Lori S: What was it like offstage? Did everyone get along?
Gloria Leroy: Cast got along and worked hard together -always.

Jeanstapletonfan: How was Jean Stapleton to work with?
Gloria Leroy: Jean is warm loving, real strong and funny.

Lori S: Who was you're favorite AITF regular?
Gloria Leroy: I don't play favorites.

Joe: Do you keep in contact with the cast of AITF?
Gloria Leroy: No, but that's showbiz.

Webmaster: What was your rehearsal schedule with AITF?
Gloria Leroy: Rehearsal was scheduled all week before taping. We taped twice on Fridays with live audiences.

Misterbeck117: What is your favorite episode of AITF?
Gloria Leroy: Favorite episode is "The Threat" (before I became Boom Boom)

Megan: Did you ever try on Sally Struthers platform shoes?
Gloria Leroy: Sally's shoes wouldn't fit me. I take 7 1/2

Webmaster: Did people type cast you as Boom Boom?
Gloria Leroy: I was type cast but now I'm older and playing Grandmas.

Anthony: Were you comfortable being known as Boom Boom?
Gloria Leroy: That's funny, Anthony. It was very comfortable. I was uncomfortable though in the film, "Barfly" where I really said embarrassing things.

Maude: Did you know at the time that AITF was such a groundbreaking show?
Gloria Leroy: No

Marie: How was it to work with Carroll O'Connor?
Gloria Leroy: Carroll was nothing like Archie. He was a serious dedicated actor hard worker - caring about other actors

ShahPound: How much of Archie did Carroll improvise, if any?
Gloria Leroy: Some improvising from all of cast - but Norman Lear and Network had to approve everything else.

Joe: What about Rob Reiner?
Gloria Leroy: Rob Reiner used to tell me to eat bananas instead of yogurt; less fattening! I guess he didn't take his advice - nice guy though!

ShahPound: My girlfriend wants to be just like Edith, and I probably don't help much by encouraging her, but I think she's a classy healthy role model. What do you think?
Gloria Leroy: Your girlfriend can be like Edith and proud of it. A good homemaker who loved her husband and daughter!

ShahPound: Would you say Edith was the glue that held the cast together?
Gloria Leroy: It was an Ensemble cast. Everyone glued together!

Jeanstapletonfan: If you could change anything about your role on AITF what would it be?
Gloria Leroy: I wish I had done even more of those episodes. I loved them!

Lori S: What would make you happy when you decide to retire a longtime from now?
Gloria Leroy: I hope to never retire. I play Grandmas now next Great Grandmas

Joe: Gloria Leroy, if you had a choice to co-star in any film, who would you want to be your leading man?
Gloria Leroy: Mel Gibson, he would be nice to look at!

Carla: Have you met our webmaster in person?
Gloria Leroy: Have not met allinthefamilysit.com webmaster but he's nice.

Megan: Did you like your role on Passions?
Gloria Leroy: Passions was fun enjoyed it.

Carla: Gloria, you looked really good in Passions! You looked so youthful!
Gloria Leroy: I do look youthful Thanks but I'm not.

AndyB86: What was it like to work on Saved by The Bell?
Gloria Leroy: Saved By The Bell was fun. I love to work.

Webmaster: Did you play a part on the old TV show Doogie Howser??
Gloria Leroy: Yes I did 1 episode of Doogie Howser -loved Neil!

Gloria71: Have you met Warren Beatty or Adrienne Barbeau?
Gloria Leroy: I auditioned with Warren Beatty for Heaven Can Wait. Didn't get job. He's gorgeous! I know Adrienne Barbeau. My brother did Fiddler on the Roof with her onstage.

Webmaster: What was like working on Days of our lives!
Gloria Leroy: Days another good role did 16 episodes. I was Beatrice Tucker on Days.

Joe: Do you know Beatrice Arthur?
Gloria Leroy: I know Beatrice Arthur but did not work with her. My brother, although did.

Lori S: What's considered your greatest accomplishment?
Gloria Leroy: Greatest accomplishments: Surviving show biz and learning computer skills.

Lori S: Ms. Leroy, any regrets? (roles, etc.)
Gloria Leroy: No regrets on roles. Showbiz totally absorbed my life. But I guess that's better that than no total interests in life.

Gloria Leroy: Final thoughts…Just did 2 movies Face The Music &Division Of Assets. Films not released yet, but will advise.
